Welcome Message

Welcome video message for the 7th UNWTO Global Summit on Urban Tourism

I look forward to welcoming you all to Seoul for the 7th edition of the UNWTO Global Summit on Urban Tourism.
I want to thank the Seoul Metropolitan Government for hosting us.
Around half of the world’s population already lives in urban areas. And this figure will keep growing. Cities have also become increasingly popular destinations for business and leisure tourists. Tourism is an important factor for the social, economic and cultural development of many cities and its surroundings. By the same token, the growth of urban tourism also creates challenges regarding the use of natural resources, socio-cultural impact, pressure on infrastructure, mobility and congestion management.
The UNWTO Global Summit on Urban Tourism will set the foundation for discussing and exploring the way forward for the key issues shaping the future of urban tourism.
We need a shared vision by public and private stakeholders and civil society, on urban tourism that embraces innovation, digital transformation and sustainability. This is also critical to fulfill the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
I look forward to welcoming you in the vibrant city of Seoul. See you in September!
